We have not yet verified how travellers currently reach Kingston from the airport serving it, so we are not publishing routes, operators or fares we cannot stand behind. For what is running on the day you travel, the arrivals information published by your arrival airport is the reliable source, and your accommodation will usually know what works best for the hour you land.
Helpful Tips
Grab a PRESTO card inside the bus terminal. Swipe once for every Kingston Transit ride. Transfers cost nothing extra. Keep it topped up.
Route 12 runs downtown to Queen's University. Buses appear every 15 minutes during peak hours. Off peak, wait stretches to 30.
Taxi stands line up outside the VIA Rail station on Counter Street. Drivers know the shortcuts. Pay by card or cash.
The ferry to Wolfe Island leaves from the downtown dock at the foot of Barrack Street. Cars roll on first. Arrive 10 minutes early.
Common Scams to Avoid
Unlicensed taxi touts inside Norman Manley International's arrivals hall quote inflated flat fares to New Kingston or the north coast, often double the metered rate. Insist on using the official JUTA or JCAL taxi dispatcher desk just outside customs and ask for the fixed fare sheet before boarding.
Baggage porters wearing unofficial-looking vests grab suitcases from the carousel and then demand a high per-bag fee; only accept assistance from porters displaying the official airport ID badge and agree on a tip amount in advance.
Currency-exchange kiosks in the landside arrivals area advertise "no commission" but use a markedly poorer rate than banks or ATMs. Compare the offered rate against the mid-market figure on your phone and, if it's off by more than a few percent, use an ATM inside instead.
